The 4 Most Bizarre Things People Have Tried to Lose Weight

Anyone who’s tried dieting knows it’s one of the hardest things in the world to succeed at.  Little wonder that people often reach for bizarre solutions.  Here are four of the craziest diets we’ve  come across:

1. The Tapeworm Diet - Tapeworms are parasites that live in the human digestive tracts and feed off the food their hosts consume. People have actually eaten the eggs of the tapeworm in the hopes they would grow in their intestines and consume some of the calories they’ve eaten.  It’s incredibly unhealthy, as the tapeworms will also consume the vitamins and minerals you need to survive, which can lead to serious malnourishment – not to mention having worms living in your intestines.

2. The Cotton Ball Diet - Some people actually believe that eating a few cotton balls before a meal will help fill their stomach and make them full, leaving them less hungry.  The problem is your body needs nutrients, and if it doesn’t get them it will crave them—not to mention that what goes in must come out.

3. Diuretics - Diuretics can allow your body to drop pounds quickly by dehydrating it drastically. But, the results are fleeting and can cause serious side effects. When you deprive your body of the fluids it needs it will look elsewhere – like in your muscles which are 70 percent water. This will slow down your metabolism and you’ll gain weight faster when you’re off the diuretic substance.

4. Tongue Patch Surgery - For a few thousand dollars, a doctor surgically attaches a "patch" to your tongue that interferes with your ability to taste, chew, and swallow.  This forces you to stay on a liquid-only diet.  It’s uncomfortable and if it works, it only works temporarily while you have the patch installed.

So, what do all of these diets have in common? They’re all attempts to lose weight without changing what we eat or increase the amount we exercise.

Is it even possible?

Conventional wisdom says that there is no shortcut to losing weight. And the billions of dollars wasted on unsuccessful weight loss strategies would seem to support that.

In reviewing the various legitimate diet plans on the market, only one – the Sensa Weight Loss System – seems to actually lead to significant weight loss without the need for increased exercise or a change in the selection of foods one eats.

Unlike other systems, it does not require meals plans, changes in food choices or strenuous exercise routines in order to work.

Sensa is a tasteless sprinkle that is added to your meal.  Although it’s completely odorless, it works with your sense of smell to trigger a response in the brain signaling you have had enough to eat.  Without the trigger, you would happily continue eating. With the trigger, you feel satiated after a much smaller portion.  The net result is a significantly reduced intake of calories.

All of this happens without the need to adjust your choice of foods or spend hours more in the gym.

So does it really work?  Apparently so.  In a study of 1400 overweight and obese men and women presented last year, the company found those who stuck with the Sensa Tastants for six months lost an average of about 30 pounds.  That’s pretty significant weight loss.

Little wonder then that it’s rapidly become one of the most talked-about diet products on the market today –featured in The New York Times, Time Magazine, and Dateline NBC. And of course, there’s no shortage of celebrities who have made Sensa their go-to solution for getting thin.  Millionaire Matchmaker Patti Stanger recently told Access Hollywood she lost 25 pounds using Sensa, and says it fits perfectly into her busy schedule. And Extra host, Dayna Devon has been raving how she lost 20 pounds with the product. “It’s one of those things you just have to try for yourself to see how easy it is to lose weight,” Danya says.

How to Try Sensa Free

The company behind Sensa thought people might be cynical about trying their product, especially when so many diet products fail.  For that reason they offer new consumers the chance to try it free for 30 days before deciding if they want to keep it and pay for the product or not.
